البقرة · The Cow · verse 178 of 286
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْقِصَاصُ فِي الْقَتْلَى الْحُرُّ بِالْحُرِّ وَالْعَبْدُ بِالْعَبْدِ وَالْأُنْثَىٰ بِالْأُنْثَىٰ فَمَنْ عُفِيَ لَهُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ شَيْءٌ فَاتِّبَاعٌ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَأَدَاءٌ إِلَيْهِ بِإِحْسَانٍ ذَٰلِكَ تَخْفِيفٌ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ وَرَحْمَةٌ فَمَنِ اعْتَدَىٰ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ فَلَهُ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo kutiba AAalaykumu alqisasu fee alqatla alhurru bialhurri waalAAabdu bialAAabdi waalontha bialontha faman AAufiya lahu min akheehi shayon faittibaAAun bialmaAAroofi waadaon ilayhi biihsanin thalika takhfeefun min rabbikum warahmatun famani iAAtada baAAda thalika falahu AAathabun aleemun

Hilali & KhanO you who believe! Al-Qisas (the Law of equality) is prescribed for you in case of murder: the free for the free, the slave for the slave, and the female for the female. But if the killer is forgiven by the brother (or the relatives) of the killed (against blood money), then it should be sought in a good manner, and paid to him respectfully. This is an alleviation and a mercy from your Lord. So after this, whoever transgresses the limits (i.e. kills the killer after taking the blood money), he shall have a painful torment.

Ahsan ul Bayan (Junagarhi)اے ایمان والو! تم پر مقتولوں کا قصاص لینا فرض کیا گیا ہے، آزاد آزاد کے بدلے، غلام غلام کے بدلے، عورت عورت کے بدلے۔ ہاں جس کسی کو اس کے بھائی کی طرف سے کچھ معافی دے دی جائے اسے بھلائی کی اتباع کرنی چاہئے اور آسانی کے ساتھ دیت ادا کرنی چاہئے۔ تمہارے رب کی طرف سے یہ تخفیف اور رحمت ہے اس کے بعد بھی جو سرکشی کرے اسے درد ناک عذاب ہوگا
